Spray and Pray

Monetizing disinformation has never been easier. With just an email address, anyone can create a subdomain of a mushroom website and start earning by flooding social media with its content. Disguised as real news platforms, these sites recycle clickbait headlines that push political agendas, blur facts, and exploit public fears. They scale rapidly, vanish without a trace, and stay alive between campaigns thanks to built-in ad systems. AI-powered and prompt-driven—but always with a human touch—their misleading, sensational content slips past algorithmic filters and flourishes across digital platforms. It’s the perfect soil to spray and pray.

Veneta Androva (born in Sofia) is a Berlin-based artist working with moving image. She holds a Fine Arts degree from the Weißensee Academy of Art, a degree in History of Art and Philosophy from Humboldt University in Berlin, and also did part of her studies at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem. Her work combines diverse media and sources – archival materials, documentaries, computer-generated elements, and painting – all woven together through animation. Often, these environments serve as platforms for her speculative storytelling. Androva has participated in numerous exhibitions internationally, including those in Germany, Bulgaria, Austria, Argentina, Brazil, Poland, the Czech Republic, Spain and Hungary. She is the recipient of several scholarships such as the Elsa-Neumann Scholarship, Cusanuswerk, and Mart Stam Scholarship. In 2020, her work ``From My Desert`` was nominated for the German Short Film Award. The following year, ``AIVA`` garnered her the Prix Ars Electronica 2021 Award of Distinction for Computer Animation, the Golden Horseman for Animated Film, and the LUCA Gender Diversity Award at Filmfest Dresden. Her films have screened at major international film festivals, including the International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film, ARS ELECTRONICA, MONSTRA Lisbon Animated Film Festival, FILE Electronic Language International Festival, European Media Art Festival (EMAF), Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival, Go Short, Sofia International Film Festival, Short Waves Festival, 25FPS International Film and Video Festival, and Short Film Festival Hamburg.
