Elizabeth Atherton is an interdisciplinary filmmaker and writer whose work explores social issues through character-driven stories and a strong sense of place. With a background in architecture from the Bartlett School of Architecture, she began her directing career in experimental documentary. She draws on architectural thinking in her filmmaking and is especially interested in using fictional characters to critique social and political issues. Homing is her debut fiction short, co-written and directed with Hansel Rodrigues and executive produced by Oscar-nominated filmmaker J. A. Bayona. Hansel Rodrigues. As a director on scripted projects, Hansel has collaborated with Oscar-nominated executive producers and BAFTAnominated actors. His Straight 8 featured in Cannes Film Festival as chosen by Robbie Ryan and Asif Kapadia. He is a joint winner of the prestigious Dreammakers Award — featured in The Hollywood Reporter and Variety — where his short Homing (co-created with Lizzie Atherton) is executive produced and mentored by J.A.Bayona. A recipient of the Emerging Voices Award, Hansel is also part of the BFI Beyond Shorts cohort, mentored by Charlotte Regan (Scrapper). His documentaries have earned multiple festival accolades and are supported by Emmy-winning Ventureland Studios. He’s passionate about telling fresh, cinematic stories that reach wide audiences.
