Abril, it’s not winter today
Ángeles Blanco is a lawyer who works for an organization assisting people with cerebral palsy. One day, she receives a text on her phone: SOS. Nothing else. Ángeles answers promptly, trying to gather more information, but there is no answer. After a few days of radio silence, another text arrives: again, SOS, followed by a crying emoji. Ángeles knows someone needs her on the other end. In order to help, she will have to find a way to get through to her.

EN: Mabel Lozano (Toledo, Spain, 12/28/1967). In 2005, she founded the production company Mafalda Entertainment to develop projects committed to Human Rights and women. Among many other works, she co-produced with New Atlantis the feature-length documentary “Voices against human trafficking (2006), “The Theory of Spiralism (2008), “The Wise Women of the Tribe” with TVE (2010), and “New Girls 24/7”, nominated for the Goya Award 2016 for Best Documentary Film and for the Platino Awards for Best Ibero-American Feature Film, as well as numerous awareness campaigns. In 2017, she published her first book, “The Pimp”, about the men behind prostitution in Spain, which was adapted into a feature-length documentary with the same title in 2018 and is currently being adapted into a television series for Movistar. Lozano herself adapted her second non-fiction book, “PornoXplotacion”, into a three-part documentary series for TVE. Her short films “Biography of a Woman’s Corpse” and “Ava” won the Goya Award for Best Documentary Short Film in 2021 and 2024, respectively. After “Lola, Lolita, Lolaza” (2025), her first animated short—also nominated for the Goya Awards and, like her previous shorts, winner of multiple awards—, “Abril, it’s not winter today” is her latest short film as a writer and director. ES: Mabel Lozano (Toledo, España, 28/12/1967). En el 2005 funda la productora Mafalda Entertainment para llevar a cabo sus proyectos comprometidos con los Derechos Humanos y la mujer. Entre otros muchos trabajos, coproduce con New Atlantis el largometraje documental «Voces contra la trata» (2006), «La Teoría del Espiralismo» (2008), «Las sabias de la tribu» con TVE (2010) o «Chicas Nuevas 24 Horas», nominado al Goya 2016 a mejor documental y a los Premios Platino como mejor largometraje iberoamericano, además de múltiples campañas. En 2017 publica su primer libro, «El proxeneta», sobre los amos de la prostitución en España, que se convierte en un largometraje documental con el mismo título en 2018 y que en la actualidad se está rodando su adaptación como serie para Moviestar. La propia Lozano fue la encargada de adaptar su segundo libro de no ficción «PornoXplotacion» a una docuserie de tres capítulos para TVE. Sus cortometrajes «Biografía del cadáver de una mujer» y «Ava» ganaron el Premio Goya a Mejor Cortometraje Documental en 2021 y 2024, respectivamente. Después de «Lola, Lolita, Lolaza» (2025), su primera incursión en el mundo del cortometraje de animación, también nominado a los Premios Goya y como los anteriores cortos, multipremiado, «Abril, hoy no es invierno» es su último corto como guionista y directora.
